Frequently Asked Questions

The honest answer to this is yes, no, and “it depends.”  We all want the best for our kids, and when we, as parents, wander into uncharted territory, in this circumstance the unknown being the college application process, it is comforting to have a guide.  That is exactly what we do.  If this is your first student going to college, then I suggest definitely yes.  If this is your third student going to college and you have run this process before, you may be able to sidestep it because you get the drill, therefore, no.  Then again, if this is your third student, and this is the one who has borderline already checked out and no longer wants to listen to mom and dad, that falls under that “it depends” category, and in this example, I would say yes. Therefore, knowing that we just gave three answers to a single question, please feel free to contact us at any time to discuss your thoughts.

The target date for final review of all apps each year is October 15th.  This has nothing to do with Early Decision (ED) or Early Action (EA), but rather due to colleges regularly moving dates related to scholarships, especially out-of-state scholarships.  Remember, you must look at each school as a business (because that is exactly what they are) trying to firm up its revenue projections for the next year.  Viewing it this way, the November and December scholarship deadline dates certain schools have make total sense for the schools’ planning and budgeting purposes, but makes it a bit tougher on the applicants, which again, we think is part of the plan.  We target all applications to be completed by Oct. 15th and submitted, all final reviews done, by October 30th.

We have and will continue to work with students from coast to coast, and with the creation of a new nationwide Counselor base, you may very well be able to work with an individual from your region/area.

Each Counselor will carry their own load, so there is no hard-and-fast number of students per each one of us.  None of us, however, will ever be overburdened to the point of not giving the proper amount of attention to your student to ensure the process and results go as we all hope it will.

No for the online portion, but yes for the College Coaching portion to be done with your Counselor.  After choosing your Counselor, you tell them what fits your financial structure, and if reasonable, we’ll make it work.  We have accepted payment in full up-front and we have accepted payments over twelve months.  Our goal is to help you launch your student, so you tell us how that best works in your world, and we’ll make it happen.

We will communicate in three main ways.  If you participate only in the online version of this program, you will receive an email once a week, targeted for Sundays, with ideas, thoughts, and look-back questions all designed to keep you on your path.  Many of these questions may very well come from questions we hope you ask us via email.  If you proceed with a Counselor, they will communicate via text, email, and phone, depending upon the importance of what is being discussed.  Weekly reminders of to-do items will more than likely be done via text, because that is your student’s main form of communication (we prefer WhatsApp because it’s the best at cross-OS-platform transfer of files).  For more important topics and specific dates, we will use email and cc parents.  For questions or concerns needing an active conversation to explore exactly what the issue is and what needs to be done, we prefer to speak to you to ensure everything is addressed and that nothing gets lost in translation.
